Why PDD Does It

Edmonton PDD thinks that we can get more done when we work together than we can on our own.

Edmonton PDD board members and staff work together with

  • Individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Families and guardians of individuals with disabilities
  • Service providers
  • Other Alberta government departments and Alberta schools
  • Community members.

In this way, Edmonton PDD helps adults with developmental disabilities get the right support to have the life they want. This is Edmonton PDD's main goal. Its job is to speak up for people, give support and pay for support, and help the community welcome people with developmental disabilities.

Edmonton PDD cannot meet this goal alone. It works together with others who want the same things for people with developmental disabilities. These others are sometimes called stakeholders. Stakeholders are people who care about an issue, usually because it affects them or someone they know.

Edmonton PDD works together with others in different ways. It has Community Conversations (get-together times) to find out what is working and what PDD needs to do differently. It uses these get-togethers to make better plans. Edmonton PDD also partners with people who are interested in issues like how to make intake better, and how to make services more person-centered. It supports advocacy and helps the community include people with developmental disabilities. Edmonton PDD also works together with individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and service providers to find supports that will help them live the life they want.

Edmonton PDD works together with lots of people and groups on different projects or committees. Click here to learn about some of them.
